Kiwanis Children's Safety Village

When
The program was inspired in 2008 by Sandy Cobbe and Gerry Dwyer of the Ontario Provincial Police and officially launched in April 2009 at Regent Park Public School. Since then, the Kiwanis Children's Safety Village has continued to grow, operating throughout the school year and bringing hands-on safety education to thousands of children across our community.
Today, the program is entering an exciting new stage of growth as we work to better meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. While we're not quite ready to share all the details, we're looking forward to announcing what's next once all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. Stay tuned—we can't wait to share this exciting new chapter with you!
Why
The Kiwanis Children's Safety Village exists to help children develop the knowledge and confidence to stay safe in everyday situations. Through engaging, age-appropriate lessons on topics such as pedestrian and traffic safety, school bus safety, train safety, internet safety, drug awareness, and human trafficking prevention, the program empowers children to make safe choices. By bringing these experiences directly into schools, the KCSV helps ensure more children receive practical safety education while reinforcing the belief that it truly takes a village to raise a child.
What
The Kiwanis Children's Safety Village is Canada's only mobile Safety Village, bringing interactive, hands-on safety education directly to elementary schools. The miniature village features roads, buildings, pop-up tents, educational displays, and battery-operated cars, allowing children to learn and practice important safety skills in a realistic, engaging environment.
Who
The Kiwanis Children's Safety Village (KCSV) is delivered by the Kiwanis Club of Orillia in partnership with community organizations, including local fire departments, Simcoe County Paramedics, Hydro One, school boards, the Children and Youth Advocacy Centre, the Ontario Provincial Police, volunteers, and community sponsors.
Where
The KCSV travels to elementary schools throughout the Orillia area and surrounding communities, making safety education accessible by bringing the program directly to students rather than requiring schools to travel to a permanent location.
