School Needs Program

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and participate in school with confidence. Unfortunately, for some families, the cost of essential school items can create barriers that affect a student's ability to fully engage in their education.

The Kiwanis Club of Orillia's School Needs Program exists to help remove those barriers by providing students with the essential items they need to be on a level playing field with their peers.

Meeting Individual Student Needs

Unlike programs that provide the same items to every child, the School Needs Program responds to the unique needs of individual students throughout the school year. Requests are submitted directly to the Kiwanis Club by local schools, allowing educators and school staff to identify students who would benefit most from additional support.

Teachers are often the first to recognize when a student may be facing challenges outside the classroom. If you know of a student who could benefit from the Kiwanis Club of Orillia's School Needs Program, we encourage you to speak with your principal or guidance counsellor.

Requests are submitted to the Kiwanis Club directly through participating schools, ensuring every referral is handled with care, compassion, and complete confidentiality. Together, we can help remove barriers, provide essential resources, and give every student the opportunity to learn, participate, and succeed with confidence.

Sometimes, the right support at the right time can make all the difference.

Depending on the student's circumstances, assistance may include:

• School supplies and classroom essentials

• Running shoes or seasonal footwear

• Clothing and outerwear

• Safety boots and equipment required for co-op placements or specialized school programs

• Other essential items that help students fully participate in their education

By responding to each request individually, the program provides meaningful support that helps students feel prepared, included, and ready to succeed.

Protecting Student Privacy

Confidentiality is at the heart of the School Needs Program.

All requests are handled directly between local schools and the Kiwanis Club of Orillia. Shopping, purchasing, and delivery are completed discreetly to protect the privacy and dignity of every student and family. Our goal is to ensure children receive the support they need without drawing unwanted attention, allowing them to focus on what matters most—their education.

A Community Investing in Children

The School Needs Program is another example of Kiwanis members working alongside local schools to make a lasting difference in the lives of children. Whether it's a backpack full of supplies, a pair of running shoes, warm winter clothing, or safety boots that allow a student to participate in a co-op placement, every item represents an investment in a young person's confidence, opportunity, and future.
